Rabbi Jacob & Deborah Rubenstein Memorial Fund for the Children of Bet Elazraki
On Thursday, August 13th, 2009 the campus of Bet Elazraki Children’s Home will be dedicated in loving memory of Rabbi Jacob and Deborah Rubenstein z”l.
From their first visit to Bet Elazraki, as leaders of the Young Israel of Scarsdale Solidarity Mission in 2003, the Rabbi and Debbie fell in love with the children and established a wonderfully close and lasting relationship with the director, Yehuda Kohn. As parents, they empathized with the painful personal histories of the children and as educators they understood the enormity of the work necessary to repair these fragile young lives. They marveled at the success stories and became personally involved in the effort to help support the home and the children. Both the Rabbi and Debbie were instrumental in bringing family, friends and congregants to the home to become part of the Bet Elazraki extended family. Teaching the concept of chesed to her students in Hebrew school, Debbie’s yearly class mitzvah projects were earmarked for the children of Bet Elazraki.
The Rabbi Jacob & Deborah Rubenstein Memorial Fund will provide the children of Bet Elazraki with desperately needed therapeutic and educational resources. At Bet Elazraki, each child is treated as an individual. Every attempt is made to meet the needs of each child for creative therapies and tutorial assistance to build self esteem and competence in life. The staff utilizes all the appropriate tools at their disposal to help rebuild the lives and psyches of the children to bring them to maturity as productive adults capable of establishing a loving family of their own. It is only with the generous support of Emunah friends and donors that Bet Elazraki can continue this life-saving work.
The Rubenstein family will be notified of all contributions to the fund. A donor’s wall at the home will recognize all contributions of $180 and above. If you are interested in attending the dedication ceremony at Bet Elazraki, please contact Carol Finkel at
